Trombones

The trombone impresses with its remarkable range of sound – from the warm, soft voice of the alto trombone to the versatile expressiveness of the tenor and the powerful depth of the bass trombone.

In our master workshop, we have been building these brass instruments for generations with the highest craftsmanship, using only German materials. As true experts in this field, we develop our instruments in close collaboration with musicians to achieve perfect response, precise intonation, and individual tonal character. Whether in orchestra, brass band, jazz, or solo performance – our trombones combine tradition, innovation, and passion to meet the highest demands.

Romantic Trombones – Originals and Authentic Reproductions from Our Master Workshop

The Robert Piering company shaped the development of romantic trombone making in Adorf/Vogtland from 1882 to 1943. The family’s craft tradition reaches back to 1842, when Friedrich August Piering – father of Robert Piering – established his own business. Robert Piering first gained wider recognition in 1882 with his innovative “guided slide” construction, which laid the foundation for his own workshop. What began in the cellar of his home soon developed into a successful enterprise, leading to the construction of a dedicated workshop building in 1897, which was expanded again only a few years later. His continual pursuit of improvement earned him great respect among colleagues and resulted in his voluntary service on the master craftsman examination board.

The romantic trombones made by Piering are distinguished by their characteristic sound and by a construction style closely related in aesthetics and acoustic design to instruments by makers such as Kruspe.

Today, we possess original Piering trombones in exceptional condition—and in our master workshop we combine deep historical knowledge, generations of tradition, and the highest level of craftsmanship. This makes us recognized experts both in the restoration of historical originals and in the creation of fully authentic reproductions of romantic trombones.

Our expertise extends far beyond Piering: we produce historically accurate replicas of romantic trombones by other notable makers such as Kruspe, Schopper, Penzel, and many more—always based on original instruments and crafted according to the same acoustic, structural, and aesthetic principles.

This unique combination of historical collections, specialized knowledge, and the work of a modern master workshop enables us to recreate romantic trombones in their true original authenticity.
